Gitmo to Close?

Many are sitting at the edge of their seats to see how our new President-elect Obama will respond as commander-in-chief. There are so many things that need to be addressed as this new administration takes power, it is almost hard to find the most important. Some may say the Wars in the Middle East, some may say the falling economy, some may feel like healthcare is a huge issue. Barack Obama has a handfull of issues to tackle and he'll surely need the help of his administration and of course, the U.S. Congress. The POTUS (President of the United States) has certain powers that allow him to make executive decisions on his own. One of these decisions is whether or not he will close Guantanamo Bay, a political prison held in Cuba. Government officials say that the camp could be emptied within a year if the Obama administration decided on a clean break from Bush policies and devoted enough resources to the job. The notorious prison was set up to hold detainees suspected of terrorists acts after September 11, 2001. There have been rumors of torturing done by the U.S. Army and other inhumane acts. Barack Obama stood firmly against any kinds of torture throughout his campaign. It will be interesting to see how he acts after January 20, 2009.

First Parents

MUMBAI, INDIA

The recent Terror Attacks in Mumbai may have been avoidable if only the Indian government took caution to a US warning. The US warned India before the Mumbai attacks, a senior Bush administration official said today, fueling criticism of the Indian government's lack of preparedness. Several top Indian officials have resigned after the attacks that claimed at least 172 lives and injured more than 300. Vilasrao Deshmukh, the chief minister of Maharashtra state, yesterday became the latest official to offer his resignation over alleged warnings about terrorist activities that were not acted upon. Maybe the minister did not take the US warnings serious because of the trust and truth relationship the U.S. holds with foreign nations. The terror attack was one of many that could possbily have been halted.

Is Sarah Palin crazy??

Some videos you just have to see to believe. On Thursday, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin appeared in Wasilla, Alaska in order to pardon a local turkey in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This proved to be a slightly absurd but an unremarkable event. But what came next was almost unreal. After the pardon Palin proceeded to do an interview with a local TV station while the turkeys were being SLAUGHTERED in the background!! Seeming to ignore the gruesomeness going on over her shoulder, she carries on talking for over three minutes. Watch the video on youtube to see for yourself. Be warned if you have a weak stomach.

Is Barack Obama increasing the hate rate?

Recently, on current.com I came across a news headline reading, Hate Crimes Spike Since Obama Win. I'm wondering if this is a sign that the harsh reality of racism is slowly emerging once again in the United States. A group of high schoolers in Raleigh, North Carolina made some comments on the Internet about the President-elect that caused secret service officials to give them a visit. There have been over 200-hate related incidents since November 4, 2008. Some may ask if folks are just now paying serious attention since the first African-American president was elected just a few weeks ago. Although some may truly be upset and want to seek out for revenge and attempt to "take their country back."
